OVERALL SCORE

The Yeti dog bowl is an investment, that’s for sure; but it’s one that will last you a lifetime. It’s very well-built and stylish, withstands falls and dings, and is easy to clean.

What we like

  • It’s a very good-looking bowl
  • Incredibly durable
  • Dishwasher-safe
  • Made for outdoor use

What we don’t like

  • May be too heavy for travel
  • Only 2 sizes

Selecting a bowl

When selecting a Yeti dog bowl, you’ll get to pick from their 6 “core” colors, or their frequent limited release colors. The six core colors are: charcoal, black, navy, seafoam, white and stainless.

Only one or 2 of the limited release colors are out at any given time, so keep an eye out if you want a more adventurous color.

You’ll also have the option for getting your bowl customized — either with some text or a graphic design. You can upload your own graphic design or pick from a few pre-made designs. The customization will be an additional $6 (+ an additional week of waiting), and can only be done via the Yeti website.

Yeti boomer 4 vs Yeti boomer 8

Now, the big question: which of their 2 sizes is right for you?

The Yeti Boomer 4 is about 6.75 inches in diameter and 3 inches deep. It weighs 1.2 pounds and can hold 4 cups (32 oz) of food or liquids. It’s a good size for medium-sized dogs, but can be too big for some small dogs.

The Yeti Boomer 8 is about 8 inches in diameter and 3.5 inches deep. It weighs 1.9 pounds, and can hold 8 cups (64 oz) of food or liquids. It’s a good choice for big dogs or as a shared drinking bowl.

Both bowls are surprisingly heavy, which is something to keep in mind if you plan on using them mainly while traveling or otherwise moving them regularly.

The unboxing

Yeti dog bowl 5

The bowls come in really nice boxes, wrapped in plastic. With each bowl you’ll get a Built For The Wild sticker and a registration card. You can register your bowl via the Yeti website.

The Yeti branding stickers on the bowls themselves come off pretty easily, leaving no sticky residue behind. Reminder: wash your dog bowls before you start using them.

The features

First off, this is one of the most high-quality dog bowls you’ll find anywhere, let’s just get that out of the way. Yeti is so confident in Its unparalleled quality, they offer free returns and a 5-year warranty.

It’s virtually indestructible

The walls of the bowl are made are thick and made of steel. That, along with the chunky strip of the silicone underneath, really makes this a durable bowl.

It’s sturdy, so your dog can’t knock it over or pick it up with his mouth. Bigger dogs can eat comfortably without the bowls sliding around due to the force of their tongues licking the bowl.

The color is built to last so it looks new even after years of use. You can toss the bowl into your dishwasher and not worry about the heat causing any damage.

Lastly, this bowl was designed with outdoor use specifically in mind. It’s puncture- and rust-resistant, so you can leave it on your porch regardless of the climate you live in, and you can be sure the local fauna won’t be able to damage this bowl.

“Over-engineered”

Yeti calls their products “over-engineered,” and they list some specs that try to convey the premium quality & safety of this dog bowl.

They use 18/8 steel that make the bowl tough as nails and contribute a lot to the solid feel of it. Food-grade & BPA-free materials ensure no chemicals leach into your dog’s food & water.

We like that the steel curves at the sides of the bowl. No hard-to-reach corners where gunk & slime can get stuck.

Will the yeti dog bowl keep water cold?

Yeti makes no official claims about how long water will stay cold in the bowl. That being said, they do use double-walled steel. It’s not insulated and of course the bowl stays uncovered, so water will not remain ice-cold — something that dogs don’t need, after all.

We’ve found that the bowl does keep water cool and fresh for longer than expected.

The verdict

At $40-50, the Yeti dog bowl is not cheap. But If you’re able to get past the hefty price tag, the bowl has a lot going for it. The clean lines and excellent design, along with the promised durability, make for a compelling purchase.

If you’re in the mood to splurge on your furbaby, we think the Yeti Boomer dog bowl is a great choice that you and your dog will be happy with for a long time.
